SISTERS in ART

Victoria and Olga are artists whose work is inspired by the psychological aspect of artistic practice. The authors explore the concept of the “inner child” in their work and create their objects from children's toys hidden under layers of plaster and paint. Paintings done in white create a sense of security in the space.

For Olga, the owner of a design studio, the process of creating paintings is a real meditation. The formation of layers of paint contributes to psychological liberation from fears and exposure of important layers of human memory.

During her studies at Central Saint Martins and Goldsmiths universities in London, Victoria was passionate about collecting and exploring ways to give things a second life. The theme of rethinking excessive consumption is an important aspect in the duo’s creative work.

Artists Olga and Victoria (SISTERS IN ART) explore the psychological theme of the “inner child,” choosing soft toys as their main means of expression. A toy is a guide to the depths of childhood memories, and from there to the unconscious.

In a new series of works, the artists pay tribute to color and form, inspired by twentieth-century creators such as Mark Rothko, Piet Mondrian, Wassily Kandinsky and others.

Going beyond the boundaries of the works themselves in their research, SISTERS IN ART declare the space in front of the painting to be significant and mysterious. They strive to master it and make the viewer a participant.

Meeting the “inner child” is a process that involves careful contemplation and promises an encounter with the unknown. Therefore, you will be able to come into contact with the relief paintings of the sisters and become part of the spiritual experience in the meditative “SISTERS IN ART Room”. By cutting off the unnecessary in this harmonious space, the artists created conditions that made it easier to immerse themselves in themselves and be filled with energy.

The “Synthesis” series presents 6 paintings that tell about the innermost.
Long before Carl Jung's research on symbols in the collective memory of mankind and Kazimir Malevich's experiments, which proved the influence of color on the psychophysical state of people, the sages of antiquity knew how color sounds, vibrates and affects. Confirmation of this is the doctrine of the chakra system. It says that each chakra has its own color. Color is like a code for different levels of life, different layers of the psyche, through which each person goes through his own spiritual path of growing up, drawing strength from childhood memories all his life.

The universal symbolism of color is echoed by the symbolism of geometric shapes, the sacredness of which was sung by the ancient Greeks.
All the forms around us constantly have a certain and significant effect on a person, regardless of whether he knows about it. Can anyone argue with the fact that the square gives order, gives a sense of basis, directness, justice? The circle is one of the most common symbols; it represents eternity, infinity, and perfection. This is a symbol of the sun, moon, an ideal natural form. The triangle means deity, heart, fire, ascension, harmony, life, prosperity, power.

The third chord in the symphony of symbols is living beings. We have all heard about the wisdom of snakes, the cunning of foxes and the strength of a lion. Everyone has encountered an animal in their dreams at least once. It is impossible not to notice the intuitive attachment of children to this or that animal, even in the form of a soft toy. Probably, the unconscious ancient craving for this or that animal, as a personal totem, does not leave a person to this day.

This series of works demonstrates the mastery of working with symbols, the alchemy of synthesis, when color, form and content are skillfully compiled, turning into an object of power to achieve the greatest impact on the viewer.

Visual code
Based on the visual code of the artists, works from different artistic disciplines are reflected.
The search for a way to work with the material was inspired by the Grand Modele bird by François Lalanne, and the collections of Yves Saint Laurent, and the works of famous costume designers, and the primitive sculptor UGO RONDIONONE, who explores children's forms of modeling, and the color scheme from old films of Pedro Almodóvar.

An important part of the work of SISTERS IN ART is to convey through art the feeling of childhood, growing up and time.
Natural forms, mud and clay, the delicate form of fading flowers and various artistic practices - the artists reconsidered a variety of visual codes in their works to find an original language. During one of their trips, Victoria and Olga were impressed by the work of Alfredo Esquillo and how he shows the fragility of time (columns standing on shaky supports) and the work of Diana AI-Hadid, where liquid materials are poured onto a flat support, and after the structure is removed to create a feeling of “timeless space”. This is how the idea and technique of applying plaster, white paint and epoxy resin was invented, which, on the one hand, “cements” the toys, and on the other, leaves them floating in the air, light, like childhood memories.
